How to get out of a slump and get motivated

Sometimes when all you need to do is study, you feel so unmotivated to even get out of bed. Trust me we’ve all been there. With exam season creeping on us, here are a few of my tips to help you get motivated!

1. CLEAN YOUR SPACE!

I can actually hear my mum saying “tidy space, tidy mind” while I type this. But in all fact, it is true. Decluttering the ever-growing mess in my room and especially on my desk helps me clear my mind too. It also motivates me to get on with studying or checking emails at my desk as its nice and tidy!

2. ORGANISE YOUR LIFE!

By doing a to-do list, I always feel like I am one step closer to leaving the student slump life. I find to do lists really useful, it helps me structure my day and it keeps me going when I know I need to tick things off my list. This also gives me things to do each day instead of staying in bed and watching Netflix…

3. GET OUT OF YOUR SLUMP ZONE

Often, it’s easy for me to stay at home and study at my desk. But when I am in a slump and even when my desk is tidy, I still feel a little unmotivated. To tackle that I always grab my things and head to the library or Ali G (if there’s ever a seat available) for a while. When I am at the library, I’ll either get started on some work or use the time to check emails and plan what I need to do. The library is a great place to be surrounded by motivated people getting on with their essays and studying- it really sets the atmosphere and helps me get on with the things I need to do.

4. FIX YOUR SLEEPING SCHEDULE

I won’t lie, I feel like a bit of a hypocrite when I write this because I still need to fix my sleeping pattern… but I found that on the days where I go to bed on time and get the right amount of sleep, I am much more motivated to start my day!

5. GIVE YOURSELF SOME TLC

It is also really important to take care of yourself! Sometimes we reach slumps because we overwork ourselves far too much. We all need a break and some tlc from time to time. Taking breaks regularly also prevents getting yourself into unmotivated slumps. For me, I either like to spend some time with friends and family, watch a movie or just read a book, anything that I enjoy doing and which helps me relax.

So, there you have it! 5 simple tips from me to help you get out of a slump and get motivated.
