Giving Tuesday

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Tomorrow on Tuesday 27 November the world will celebrate Giving Tuesday an international day to do good deeds and acts of kindness. Across campus there will be plenty of opportunities to mark Giving Tuesday and discover new ways of giving. Head to one of the University’s events to see how you can do your bit, and be inspired by others who give.

On campus

Making a Difference Fair – Renold Building, 11.30am-2.30pm

The Making a Difference Fair will showcase a variety of different organisations which you can support or volunteer with.

SwapShop – Renold Building, 11.30am – 2.30pm

The SwapShop will be returning to North Campus for Giving Tuesday. If you have any unwanted clothes, books, gifts, toys or homeware you can swap or donate them at the SwapShop.  Entry is £3, or £1.50 if you have items to swap and all money raised will go to The Proud Trust and left over items to Barnabus.

If you have items to donate you can drop them off from Monday 26November in Sackville Street Building C44 or Renold Building B28.

HeartStrart CPR – Barnes Wallis Building, 12.15pm-2.00pm

There’s also the opportunity to learn some emergency lifesaving skills. There will be HeartStart CPR training sessions running at 12.15pm and 1.15pm. You can sign up for ones of these sessions via Eventbrite.

Outside of these events there are other ways to give this Tuesday. Do something kind such as;

  • Send someone a thank you note or nice message
  • Smile at strangers on campus
  • Bring a surprise treat in for friends

By improving others’ lives we can improve our own. Helping, giving, sharing – doing something for someone else has been proven to make us feel more positive about ourselves. Find out more about why giving makes us happy and the psychology behind it here.  And remember, it’s not just about the big grand gestures – small acts of kindness woven into the everyday can make a big difference.

Show us how you’re giving this Tuesday or how someone else has brightened up your day using #UoMGivingTuesday.
