Get ready to be purple, proud and loud! On Wednesday 27 March the University will once again be hosting the annual Christie Championships. With more competitions than the Triwizard Cup*, you can watch Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds battle it out on the court, pitch and even in the water.
Established in 1886, the Christie Championships is an annual sports event held between Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. You may have heard of the Oxford and Cambridge rivalries – well, this is how we do it Northern style. Now in its 133rd year, more than 30 sports will be played throughout the day, culminating in a celebration where the overall victors will be presented with the coveted Christie cup. Last year after a four year winning streak Manchester was knocked off the top spot by Liverpool. Can we win it back this year?
Come along on Wednesday afternoon to show your support, University spirit, and watch a thrilling high standard of sport and cheer on our Manchester student athletes. With sports such as football, fencing, gymnastics, lacrosse, swimming and water polo – to name a few, there’s something for everyone. *(Unfortunately we don’t have any dragons or mermaids).
