The planned work due to take place this weekend to upgrade the University’s data centres will now take place after the examination period has concluded, ensuring there is no planned disruption to your ability to complete and submit assignments online.
While IT maintenance and upgrades are often essential, given the recent network connectivity issues and risks of further disruption, we have decided to postpone the planned work to the weekend of the 13 and 14 June.
This is a joint decision taken by IT Services and the Teaching and Learning Group Executive.
Why are we doing this work?
As you may be aware, the University is undergoing an extensive programme of improvements to the University network – to improve the speed, reliability and coverage of the wired and Wi-Fi networks. The works also include upgrades to the equipment in our data centres – a key part of our network infrastructure, which will ensure that our network service is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to quickly identify any problems and prevent any disruption.
Thank you for bearing with us as we work towards making the University network more reliable and resilient for everyone.
