Team Rwanda needs you! Can you give time to volunteer remotely this summer?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Team Rwanda is the University’s flagship volunteering project, and this year student volunteers were due to fly out and volunteer in-country alongside students from the University of Rwanda on projects for social enterprise, Azizi Life. It goes without saying that running the project in this way hasn’t been possible this year – but that isn’t going to stop us trying to help!

Azizi Life is a social enterprise that supports local Rwandan artisans, helping them to set up and run small businesses, connecting their products to global markets, and investing the profits in community development. The majority of their income comes from tourism and so they have been very badly hit by the pandemic. The University’s Volunteering Team are working closely with Azizi Life to identify how students can help and so we are looking for a small team of volunteers to volunteer remotely, helping with urgent tasks as they navigate the crisis.

Volunteers will work either individually or in small teams (remotely) on the following projects:

Business development – supporting the urgent task of finding new markets and increasing online sales in the US and the UK

Social media – creating vibrant promotional content and planning and implementing campaigns

PR – Writing blogs and putting together packs for various media

Community impact reporting – pulling together data into engaging reports for use with donors and prospective retailers

Fundraising – planning and delivering fundraising campaigns

Do you have some time to help? We’re looking for self-motivated and passionate volunteers with some skills or basic experience in the project of their interest. You will develop skills in remote team working and collaboration, cultural awareness, creative problem solving, communication, skills specific to your project area and more.

Students studying at any level and from any discipline are welcome as long as you are available to spend a few hours each week (or more if you wish) proactively working on the tasks for a minimum of 4 weeks throughout July and August.

Interested? Find out more, including how to apply and key dates on the Volunteering Website.

Be quick though, the deadline for applications is 9am on the 6th July! There is also a Zoom information and induction session at 10am that day.
