Things you need to know (or do) as you finish university

Reading Time: 2 minutes

For many of you, deadline day is fast approaching, and with that could come the end of your time at Manchester. Although the end of your degree might not have looked exactly as expected, there are some life-admin things that you either need to do or know about to make your transition out of university life as easy as possible. There is obviously still some uncertainty over some things, but here is the most up to date information in our finalist check-list:

Your IT account

A short while after you graduate, your IT account will close. This means that you will no longer have access to your documents, email, Blackboard course materials or My Manchester. IT Services will be in touch with you closer to the time however, it may be a good idea to make copies of those emails, documents and other files that you’d like to keep to avoid a last minute rush. For more information visit the IT Services website.

On the other hand, being an alumni means you will have access to the Your Manchester alumni portal. Just make sure you have updated your details in the student system.

Returning your Library books

You need to make sure you return your books to the Library to avoid any late fees. The Library are working hard to safely reopen their sites and deliver in-person services as lockdown restrictions ease.

There is limited service for returning books, click and collect and other services. For more information and updates please visit the Library’s ‘Service availability’ page.

In the meantime, all digital services are still available and you can contact them through Library Chat or the online enquiry service.

You can find out more information and updates on the library website.

Graduation

At this stage, we are planning that our December graduation ceremonies will go ahead as scheduled. However, we are keeping this under review and will provide more details closer to the time for students who would normally expect to graduate in December.

Please do you keep checking your University email address to keep up to date. Or visit the Graduation website.

Know how to get your transcripts

An official record of the grades you have achieved (your transcript) will be available electronically in mid-August. Online transcripts can be accessed through Digitary for free. For more information on accessing your electronic transcript visit our Graduation pages.

Update your Careers link account

You’ll still have access to the Careers Service for two years after you graduate. Although the Careers Service on campus has temporarily closed, we are still here for you. You can contact the Careers Service via chat or email to discuss how we can help or to book a careers guidance appointment via phone, Skype or Zoom. Remember though you will need to update your details by creating an alumni account to access CareersLink for job vacancies and events

Stay connected

After graduating, you’ll be part of the largest global alumni community in the UK. Remember that the University is here to stay connected with you through exclusive events and opportunities as well as providing career support. Find out more on the alumni page on what’s available.
