Careers success for Masters – start early

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Even though you’ve just started your Masters it’s never too early to start thinking about your future. Given what’s happened over the last six months, it’s important now more than ever to start thinking about your Career and planning ahead.

Whether you’re still thinking about potential career pathways or you’re actively looking for vacancies, now is the perfect time to get insight into different sectors and industries out there, and what’s available to postgraduate students.

Have a look at the new Postgraduate section on the Careers Service website. Created specifically for postgraduate taught students the website has interactive online careers planning resources you can work through. The resources cover ‘what happens when’ in the employer recruitment cycle, what the job market looks like in 2020/21, and making the most of your year.

Another reason to start early is that many recruiters advertise jobs a year in advance, so applications are open early for jobs that won’t be starting until you’ve finished your degree. And for many employers they often only attend events once a year and this tends to be in the autumn. So it’s best to start early when it comes to preparing for your future.

During your first semester there are several virtual Career events and talks taking place that you won’t want to miss.
