Staying active made easy!

Reading Time: 2 minutes

So, joining the Athletics Union or a sports team during Welcome wasn’t really for you? Remember there are lots of other ways you can fit some exercise in around your studies on (or close to) campus.

Sporticipate

Sporticipate is a great way to try something new for free! All sessions are aimed at complete beginners and all are run either on campus, at one of the Sports facilities or on Zoom, so you can join the classes from home.

There’s a whole range of sports and classes on offer for you to get involved with. From something you might have played years ago and want to take up again like netball or basketball, to things you may not have tried before such as yoga, pilates, or archery – there’s something for everyone.

Be Active Classes

This year, UoM Sport are offering their usual Be Active 8-week courses, which are face-to-face group exercise classes held on campus. Booking online will be essential as there are limited spaces due to social distancing. As with Sporticipate, the classes welcome all levels of ability and there’s a great range of classes you can get involved in, from yoga and pilates to Kettlebells and Step HIIT!

#ActiveAnywhere

UoM Sport will also be offering their #ActiveAnywhere courses, which will be 8-week blocks of Zoom classes so that you can exercise from the comfort of your own home. The sessions are free to Armitage Centre Gold Members, and are available at an upfront cost for the whole course if you don’t have a membership at the Armitage Centre. You can take a look at the full timetable of Active Anywhere classes here!

Gym membership

With the Armitage Sports Centre, Sugden Sports Centre, and Manchester Aquatics Centre located so conveniently to campus and university accommodation they could be your way to stay active. Don’t forget that all first years in halls have free silver membership of the Armitage Centre for this semester. And even if that’s not you, you can check out the facilities and see what’s on offer. You can pay as you go for most activities at all the centres if you just want to check them out.

And if you are regretting not signing up for a team…

Don’t worry, it’s not a Welcome week-only thing, you can join anytime. Take a look at what’s on offer.
