In response to some isolated incidents of email abuse, IT Services are applying limits to the amount of email students can send in any given period. This does not affect the amount of email any person can receive.
Any student may send:
· 200 emails in any given 60 minute period
· 250 emails in any given 24 hour period
Note that if you are sending one message to multiple people, that will count as multiple emails. For example, if you send a message to 20 people, that will count as 20 emails. An individual message to a Listserv mailing list or similar will only count as one email.
If your account breaches those limits, it will be automatically blocked from sending emails for 24 hours, then sending will be re-enabled. If you find your account has been blocked accidentally and cannot wait 24 hours, please telephone the IT support centre on 0161 306 5544 so they can ‘unblock’ accounts earlier if required. If you are aware you have a task which means you will breach those limits, please contact the IT support centre in advance, who will be able to raise the limits for you for a short period.
As always, if you feel your account may have been accessed by someone else without your permission, you must telephone the IT Support Centre on 0161 306 5544 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) as soon as possible.
