Message from Professor Nalin Thakkar as cases increase in Manchester due to Delta variant

Dear students,

We are seeing increasing Covid cases in our area and population (albeit from a low level) because of the Delta variant. Our campus is in a surge testing area of Manchester (M14 4, M14 7, M15 5, M15 6, M16 7 and M16 8). People living and working in these areas are strongly encouraged to take regular COVID-19 tests, whether they are showing symptoms or not.

We are therefore urging you to take the following actions to ensure we all remain safe:

  • All staff and students are asked to take a COVID-19 test twice a week and isolate where necessary to prevent further spread.
  • Students are asked to take a COVID-19 test before returning to their homes for the summer as at Christmas to keep their friends and family safe.
  • Observe Covid-secure measures (‘Hands. Face. Space’ ) diligently on the campus.

Free COVID-19 rapid lateral flow tests are available on campus to all staff and students. Please note, our campus testing centres will close from 23 July, but you can still get regular rapid lateral flow tests at multiple locations across Manchester. Visit the City Council website to find out more.

We are working hard to keep all our staff and students safe and it is important that we all play our part in this. Thank you for taking these further actions to stop the spread – there is further information to help you below. I hope you stay safe and well.

Best wishes,

Professor Nalin Thakkar, Vice-President for Social Responsibility
