Postgraduate Academic English support

Reading Time: < 1 minute

No matter what your first language is, academic English can be difficult to get your head around, especially as you advance further in academia.  So, if you do think you could use a bit of support, don’t worry – the University Language Centre’s Academic Success programme is here to help!

There are Faculty-specific workshops in academic writing and grammar as well as a host of online resources to help you, whatever your starting point.

For PhD students, there is also a one to one tutorial service where an experienced academic writing tutor will give you specific feedback on a sample of your work.

Another useful resource is the academic phrasebank. This is a general resource for academic writers, giving examples of general phrases used in academic writing according to common sections in a research paper or thesis. Particularly helpful if you’re struggling with writers block!

And don’t forget, if you are struggling with writers block or just general motivation for writing, My Research Essentials run regular Shut Up and Write sessions.
