PGR Funding: University of Manchester response to UKRI announcement to increase their minimum stipend

Reading Time: < 1 minute

We are pleased to announce that the University of Manchester is making a significant investment in Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) by raising the minimum stipend for 2022/23 to £17,668 full time equivalent for all PGRs who are on a studentship funded directly by the University. This will see University of Manchester funded stipends rise by more than £2000 from the 2021/22 level, in line with the minimum stipend provided by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to all UKRI-funded PGRs.

The increase will take place for those PGRs in receipt of a University of Manchester, wholly or partly funded studentship, who are commencing or continuing their studies from 1st October 2022.

The University also provides support to all PGRs through the Living Cost Support Fund. Any PGRs who are experiencing financial difficulty can apply for support with costs like private accommodation, utilities, food shopping, childcare etc. Further information on eligibility, costs covered, and the application form can all be found on the Living Cost Support Fund website. Please also remember the University’s support services and the Togetherall (free online mental health and wellbeing support 24/7) are also available to all PGRs.
