Meet your services

Whether you’re new to University, or returning to campus, now seems a good time to put together a handy list of some of the key services you’re going to need this year. Click on each link to find out more:

The Careers Service

It’s never too early, or late, to access the careers service and find out how they can help you with your future plans. From CV and cover letter checks, to interview and assessment centre practice they’ll make sure that you’re clued up ready to smash your next job interview. The University’s Career Connect website provides lists of job opportunities ranging from short-term internships to full time roles, as well as offering careers drop-in sessions. 

IT Services 

The University’s IT Services are fully equipped to help you with any IT related queries. Head to their webpage to find out more about Wi-Fi, two-factor authentication, free Microsoft Office software, tech support and more.

Library

More than books, although we have plenty of those too. Our Library services are here to support you throughout your studies in lots of ways:

  • ‌access to resources like books, e-journals, and databases;
  • training and workshops to help you develop your study skills;
  • study spaces and computer clusters; 
  • help and support, including IT support.

Student Services Centre

Student Services are available to help with queries relating to registration, visas, funding and more. Take a look at their webpage to find out more about how they can support you during your time here.

Sport

Get active, keep fit, join a gym, try a new sport, or try for a team. Whatever kind of sport, exercise, or fitness you’re into you’ll be able to find something to get involved in. 

Media Services 

Offering bookable edit suites, recording studios, and graphic support workshops the University’s Media Services are there to help with all your editing, designing, and recording needs. They even offer digital media skills training, so why not head down there and make the most of our facilities. 

School support

Your academic school will provide information, advice and guidance for issues affecting your studies and wellbeing. Click the link above to find out your schools’ support contact. 

Academic advisors

Academic advisors are members of academic staff, associated with your degree programme, who are here to support you throughout your time at university. Your academic adviser will be able to assist you with the transition from school or college to university, and help you get to grips with studying and learning more independently. 

ResLife

The ResLife team are here to ensure that you get all the support and guidance you need throughout your stay in our Halls of Residence. They will be your first port of call in halls for any problems you may have, whether that’s relating to accommodation, academics, or personal life, they are here to point you in the right direction. 

Each hall as its own ResLife Coordinator and Advisors, who are either postgraduate students or university staff, and therefore understand the demands of university life. Your ResLife Advisor will hold regular flat meetings to ensure that everyone is happy and involved in the residential experience. They even host several events throughout the year such as pub quizzes, pizza nights, and yoga sessions!

Campus Support and Security 

With around 85 members of staff, this team’s priority is your welfare. If you need help on campus, whatever that may be, don’t be shy to stop and chat to one of our friendly Campus Support and Security team members. They’re on hand to help you with things such as first aid, directions, and any other security issues. 

Mental health and wellbeing

We know that as well as being enjoyable, student life can sometimes feel overwhelming, but we want you to know that there is lots of support available. Our 6 ways to wellbeing will help you to make positive changes to keep you feeling good and living well. 24 hour support is also available at the click of a button if you’re ever in need of someone to talk to. 

Disability Advisory and Support Service (DASS)

We offer lots of support and advice throughout your time at The University of Manchester and we want to help you flourish in all areas of your life. Offering an accessible and inclusive service, DASS supports a variety of different groups providing practical support to enable you to succeed in your studies and the rest of your university experience.
