Creating our new Flexible Learning Innovation Space

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We’re excited to announce that we’re developing a new Flexible Learning Innovation Space in Prospect House.

Your feedback in our Flexible Learning strategy workshops showed that you wanted to see more campus spaces where you can study, collaborate with your peers and teaching staff and trial new learning tools and technology.

Prospect House, which sits between the National Graphene Institute and Kilburn Building, will be our new Flexible Learning Innovation Space – launching early 2023.

The Flexible Learning Innovation Space will provide opportunities for you to engage with flexible learning activities and technology-enhanced educational experiences:

Ground Floor

  • The commuter student lounge will offer our commuter students an additional space to study, relax and work together with kitchen facilities as well as quiet areas and places to relax available, giving you a place to call your own on campus.
  • The XR (eXtended Reality) space will transform how we teach and learn. From medical training to laboratory preparation, game development and taking virtual field trips, you will be able to ‘learn by doing’, using VR headsets.

First Floor

  • The Hy-Flex space will help us to explore the potential for in person, on campus and online teaching at the same time. It will feature technology that will help you work in groups, no matter whether your peers are joining the class on-campus or remotely.
  • The Lifelong learning suite is a collaborative and flexible space that will host learning activities for new courses we’ll be developing as part of the move to more blended and flexible learning, such as short courses and professional development for those who are already in a career.

We are always seeking feedback, suggestions and new ideas, so if there’s anything you think we’re missing, or something that would make the space work even better for you, please leave a comment on this padlet board.

We’re still finalising all the design features and how spaces can be booked, but we can’t wait to welcome you into the Flexible Learning Innovation Space soon – make sure to look out for an announcement on the launch event.
