In response to an incident near our Owens Park residences on Wednesday 26 October, Greater Manchester Police will be increasing their safety patrols around Fallowfield and other main student areas.
As well as the usual Student Safe patrols in the area, from this evening (26 October) until Monday 31 October, there will be additional officers patrolling between 7pm and 3am each night.
If you have been affected by the incident, we have lots of options for you to access if you need support, from our Counselling and Mental Health Service to a 24hr mental health helpline and chat. Our Residential Life teams remain available for students in our halls of residence.
Traffic diversions are likely to remain in place for the rest of the day, with bus services diverted around the route via Dickenson Road, Birchfields Road, and Moseley Road in both directions.
Ongoing police investigations
Greater Manchester Police investigations are continuing and they have confirmed further details of this dreadful incident this evening. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to all those affected by this terrible situation. While the young man who tragically died was not one of our students, we understand this will affect the entire student community across the city and any loss in such circumstances is devastating.
