FAQs
Why do I need to do this training?
We are all responsible for protecting personal data that individuals have entrusted to the University and information that’s confidential in nature. Failure to do so can result in significant harm and distress to the individuals whose data we hold, lead to reputational damage to the University and regulatory fines.
There is an ever-present risk that any one of us could become the victim of a cyber-attack. There are many simple but important steps outlined in the training that you can take to help keep your information, and University systems, safe and secure.

What if I have completed (or started) the course already as a member of staff?
It is possible, if you have a dual role at the University e.g. Teaching Assistant, that you have already completed or started the staff version of the training (LAOD152). If so, you are not required to complete or restart the PGR version of the course.

Typically, this is browser issue and may relate to the ‘third party cookie’ settings on the particular browser you’re using. In the browser’s ‘privacy and security’ settings, ensure that third party cookies are not blocked, they need to be enabled so the site can track progress.
If using Safari browser (mac, iPad and iPhone) go to the ‘Privacy & Security’ settings and disable ‘Prevent Cross-Site Tracking’. The site needs to track progress however the setting can be enabled again after completing the course.
If you have an ad-blocker enabled on your browser, please disable it whilst you complete the course
I have completed the course and passed the quiz but my training record still says ‘confirmed’ not ‘passed’, why is that?

Once you have completed the quiz and achieved a score of 80% or more, close the quiz by clicking the ‘close’ button on the last screen, you will know you’ve successfully completed the course when you see the ‘Congratulations’ message.
How do I turn on subtitles?
You can turn on closed captions by selecting the CC button to the right of the audio control.

You must complete all sections and achieve a score of 80% in the quiz to successfully complete the course. Close the quiz by clicking the ‘close’ button on the last screen. Your University of Manchester Training Record will be updated within 72 hours. If you are asked to provide evidence of completing the course, please take a screen shot of your training record which shows the date of completion.
