As we move from planning the future to making real changes to how we teach and learn, we want to keep our students involved throughout the Flexible Learning Programme. Our new Flexible Learning student design group is at the heart of this approach.
What is the purpose of the Flexible Learning student design group?
Working with our students over the past year has highlighted areas where we’ll need to make changes as we move to more blended and flexible learning. In the next stage, we want to ensure the solutions we bring in work for all students. For example, we know that we need to upgrade our digital learning tools, but deciding which ones fit best is a decision we can only make together with you. The Flexible Learning student design group will be the place where we make these decisions in partnership with you.
Who can get involved?
Any current student at The University of Manchester is invited to apply to join the group. What’s most important to us is that our members have lots of different points of views, experiences and backgrounds. We welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.
What’s the time commitment and is this a paid opportunity?
The group will meet around four times a year for around 1 ½ hours, whenever we have plans and designs we’d like to discuss with you. Outside of meetings, we may ask you to review some materials in preparation, or speak to your peers about specific issues. There will also be an option to feed in online only, if you do not feel comfortable attending meetings in person. For your participation, you will receive £15/hour in love2shop vouchers. This means you can be flexible about when you want to get involved to suit your schedule and topics you’re most interested in.
How do I apply?
To register your interest in becoming a member of the Flexible Learning student design group, fill out our application form. In it, we’ll ask you a few quick questions about your year of study and course and we’ll invite you to briefly outline which perspective you might be able to offer on our plans and designs. You can apply until 27th October 2023 and we’ll be in touch by the 10th of November to let you know the outcome and next steps. While we want to give as many students as possible the chance to participate, we may need to cap numbers to make sure every member gets a chance to feed in.
