5 things you should know if you are graduating this winter

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As winter graduation is fast approaching, those who are hoping to graduate this year need to start thinking about your next steps.

To help you achieve your post-graduation goals, here are five things to do now:

1. When you need to register your attendance
Registration opened on Wednesday, 11 October, and we have emailed all students with further instructions on the steps you need to complete.

Even if you’re not planning on attending your ceremony, you’ll still need to complete the registration form to let us know so we can get your certificate to you.

The deadline for registration is Thursday, 30 November (midnight)

2. How to book your robes/academic dress
You’ll need to wear official academic dress – a graduation gown, hood and cap – to your ceremony. You’ll be able to book these online through Ede and Ravenscroft or call them on +44 (0)1223 861854. We suggest you book your robes as soon as you’ve registered your attendance to get in ticked off your list.

The deadline to book your academic dress is by Monday, 27 November.

3. How to book your guest tickets
All graduands are entitled to a maximum of two guest tickets each, which will be collected on the day when you sign in at the registration desk on arrival. Guest tickets are booked when you register your attendance.

On the day, if there’s extra space we’ll usually allow additional guests to enter the hall, however this is not guaranteed. Don’t worry though, guests without tickets will be able to watch the ceremony live-streamed on campus (University Place), and friends and family at home will be able to join the stream too on YouTube!

4. What to expect on the day
There’s a lot going on during the day of your ceremony, and we want it to go as smoothly as possible for you and your guests.

We recommend you take a look through the Graduation website to familarise yourself with all the information on preparing to graduate and the order of the day so you know what to expect and where you need to be. The website will be up-to-date with the latest information.

5. How to connect with your careers team
With graduation only a few months away, now is a great time to connect with the Careers Service. You can continue to access their resources for up to two years after you finish your course! Keep up to date with all of the latest career opportunities and events through the Careers website and Instagram channel. You can also fill out their ‘What Next? Survey‘ to get tailored careers advice – open from Monday, 30 October – Sunday, 5 November .
