Honorary degrees and awards – submit your nominations now

Did you know that in 2021 we awarded Marcus Rashford with an honorary degree? Marcus’ Mancunian roots and outstanding commitment and ongoing campaign against child poverty during the pandemic landed him one of the highest awards we can give.

We are now inviting you to nominate another remarkable individual who has made an exceptional contribution to society to receive an Honorary Degree, Medal of Honour, or a National Honours.

What are these awards?

Honorary Degrees are the highest awards given by our University. We honour individuals who have made significant contributions to their field or public life.

Selection Criteria:

  • The nominee should be a role model of ambition and achievement.
  • The award should be as meaningful to the nominee as it is to the University.
  • The nominee should reflect the University’s vision and values.
  • While a connection to the University, Manchester, or the north-west is preferred, it is not essential.
  • Those with a remarkable record of voluntary service or community engagement.

Medals of Honour are the highest non-degree award given by our University. It recognises individuals who have made outstanding and lasting contributions, usually to the University, the city of Manchester, or the north-west region.

Types of Contributions Considered:

  • Voluntary/community work
  • Business achievements
  • Philanthropy
  • Economic impact
  • Contributions to education, the arts, science, sports, and more

National Honours

The Awards and Honours Group can help with nominations for national honours that you want the University to support. Since the University can only sponsor a few cases each year, you may want to send your nomination directly for these national awards.

Check out our website for more information about these awards.
