A team of student innovators from the University of Manchester has developed Clarify, a mobile app designed to help young people navigate the often-overlooked aspects of adult life. From understanding payslips and pensions to housing rights and professional communication.
Clarify aims to empower students and young adults aged 16–24 with essential life skills that are rarely covered in traditional education. The app offers interactive courses, explainer videos, and a growing community platform focused on real-world topics like financial literacy, legal awareness, career preparation, and everyday adult responsibilities.
The student-led project was recently shortlisted for the Spark Awards for Big Changemakers, a national initiative that recognises impactful, youth-driven solutions to real-world challenges.
“We believe success is more than academic achievement,” says the Clarify team. “Clarify is about giving young people the knowledge and confidence they need to take on adulthood, ask questions, and connect with others going through the same transition.”
Research underscores the urgency of this mission. A recent Santander study found that 79% of young people feel unprepared for financial realities. Clarify’s creators have backed this with insights gathered from fellow students and consultations with professionals, all pointing to the same need: practical, accessible, and inclusive life-readiness education.
Help Clarify grow: your voice matters
As part of their ongoing development, the Clarify team is inviting University of Manchester students to shape the future of the app. They’ve created a short feedback form (under 2 minutes) to collect insights on what matters most to students.
