Supporting you with issues of harassment and sexual misconduct

Being part of The University of Manchester means saying yes to respect, yes to consent and yes to standing up to harassment and discrimination.

From Friday, 1 August 2025, all universities in England must meet new rules from the Office for Students about how we support students with issues like harassment, sexual misconduct and gender-based violence. Here’s how we’re already taking action:

A single place for everything you need

We’ve launched a new single-source webpage where you can find:

  • All University policies and procedures
  • Guidance on your rights
  • Links to support
  • Training info for students and staff
  • And annual reports and updates on our work in this area

How we protect students

We’re proud to already have dedicated support in place which includes our Advice and Response team who are here if you’re affected by harassment, sexual misconduct or any safeguarding concern. We also:

  • Work closely with students and the Students’ Union
  • Mandatory training for all students on consent, harassment and bystander intervention
  • Partner with local and national specialist organisations
  • Publish and review data to improve support
  • And take a trauma-informed approach to all processes

Visit the new single-source webpage to find out more about our work in these areas.

Support if you’re affected

If you’ve experienced harassment, sexual misconduct or any other safeguarding issue – or if someone has made a report about you – there is support available.

Our specialist Advice and Response team can help you understand your options and provide trauma-informed support. You can contact them directly or use our Report and Support tool to get help

Support is available whether something happened recently or in the past, on or off campus, and whether you choose to make a formal report or not.

You’ll also find support through:

Look out for campaigns throughout the year including our Never OK campaign and the annual Reclaim The Night march in Autumn. We will share more information about these campaigns to your student email address and you can keep up to date via the University’s Instagram and TikTok
