AI at Manchester

On campus 75 years ago this month, Alan Turing established the Turing Test in Computing Machinery and Intelligence, widely regarded as the first ever paper on AI. Since then, we’ve been driving the evolution of modern computing. Now, we’re writing the next chapter.

At the intersection of disciplines, we’re designing AI that tackles global challenges and transforms industries, enhances public services and ultimately improves lives. Our research spans the full spectrum – from fundamental breakthroughs to real-world application. With 1,600 researchers, we are a community that represents a new generation of changemakers.

We believe in hybrid intelligence: AI that enhances human intelligence, rather than replaces it. We are committed to ensuring it is used responsibly, ethically and effectively – and we have the courage to confront AI’s toughest implications, with the vision to provide the answers.
