Challenge Accepted: Our first ever fundraising and volunteering campaign

We’ve just launched Challenge Accepted, the University’s first-ever global fundraising and volunteering campaign, and we’re inviting you to be part of it.

The campaign aims to tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges by bringing together the power of our Manchester community – alumni, students, researchers, and staff- making a difference, whether through fundraising or volunteering.

For over 200 years, Manchester has been home to world-changing ideas, from splitting the atom to creating graphene. Now, we’re continuing that legacy by taking action on today’s global challenges.

What the campaign is supporting

With an ambitious goal to raise £400m, the campaign is all about unlocking the full power of our Manchester community:

🎓 Student inclusion and success
Breaking down barriers to education and supporting students to thrive — through scholarships, mentoring, wellbeing, and paid work opportunities.

🔬 Research with purpose
Supporting researchers working on urgent global issues like cancer, climate change, and social inequality to help get discoveries into the world faster.

🚀 Innovation and enterprise
Connecting bright ideas with business and entrepreneurial hubs to drive inclusive growth and new solutions, in areas like green energy, health equity and digital inclusion.

🎭 Culture and community
Using our cultural spaces — from the Whitworth and Manchester Museum to Jodrell Bank — to promote inclusion, creativity, and wellbeing.

Ready to take on a challenge? How you can get started

Every action counts — and for students right now, that means getting stuck in through volunteering. Whether you want to gain new skills, meet like-minded people, or make a difference in your community, there are loads of ways to get involved.
