Friends of the Whitworth Sunday (15)
Enjoy a relaxed afternoon concert in the Whitworth’s South Gallery overlooking Whitworth Park. Students from the Royal Northern College of Music perform a wide range of music, from classical flamenco guitar to contemporary flute. Each concert lasts around 45 minutes and you’re welcome to drop in and out, a perfect low-cost break.
Chinese and Lunar New Year Celebrations in Chinatown (early February)
Celebrate the Year of the Horse with lion dances, red lanterns and street food stalls across Manchester’s Chinatown. There are loads of events happening across the city, including in the Manchester Museum and the Manchester Art Gallery.

Priscilla Queen Of the Desert at the Palace Theatre (19-28)
The Broadway and West End hit arrives in Manchester with an incredible road trip across the Australian Outback. Packed with disco anthems like I Will Survive and It’s Raining Men, plus stunning costumes and choreography. A joyful celebration of friendship, self-expression and being unapologetically yourself.

Co‑op Live’s February Concert Highlights (Throughout February)
Manchester’s world‑class venue Co‑op Live hosts a huge variety of big concerts this February. Artists confirmed this month include Jason Derulo, Deftones on 14 Feb, RAYE, Florence + The Machine and James Arthur.
If tickets are sold out, there are often cheap resale options, so it’s worth checking again, this arena consistently brings some of the best live music acts to Manchester.

Student Gigs at YES Manchester (Throughout February)
A student favourite just off Oxford Road, known for half-price pizza and affordable drinks. With four floors and a buzzing atmosphere, it regularly hosts live music, DJ sets and club nights. It is perfect for casual evenings out or pre-drinks before gigs and events nearby. Affordable live shows and club nights across four floors, with plenty of under £10 tickets.

Cooking@Manchester (4, 11, 18, 25)
Learn to cook healthy, budget-friendly meals with MasterChef winner Simon Wood at University Place. Each session includes a live demo, tasting, Q&A and a free digital recipe pack. February themes include brunch, desserts, knife skills and egg-based meals. All sessions are free for UoM students, perfect for improving your cooking without breaking the bank.
Six Nations Rugby Screenings (5-onwards)
The Six Nations is officially back, and Manchester has loads of great spots to watch it with friends. From food halls to lively sports bars, grab a seat by the big screen and enjoy the atmosphere. Perfect for a relaxed winter afternoon with a pint and some rugby action.
Liverpool vs Manchester City (8)
One of the season’s most anticipated clashes, this top fixture promises an electric atmosphere. Perfect for watching with friends at a lively pub without needing tickets to the stadium. Top student-friendly spots include Courtyard, BOX Deansgate, Tib Street Tavern, or Directors Box for big screens and drink deals.

February isn’t just about rugby and football, the Super Bowl brings American football fans together across the city. The Purplewave, organised by UoM Sport, is all about community, fun, and staying active. Participants can join various runs, walks, and jogs throughout the year, including the Spring Dash on 4 March and the Great Manchester 10k on 31 May. Tickets are available now, and you can sign up early to secure your spot, track your progress, and even fundraise if you wish.

Take a day trip to the Trafford Centre
Where else can you find mini golf and laser quest, a huge shopping mall, cinema, food, drink, and even sharks all under one roof? The Trafford Centre really has it all and is easily accessible via Manchester’s bus and tram routes. If you’re not looking to spend much it’s a beautiful location to have a browse around shops and enjoy the busy atmosphere.
