Manchester Marathon: What students need to know

Manchester Marathon announces that in 2026 the finish line will return to Oxford Road, with 40,000 runners having registered.

This year’s adidas Manchester Marathon is taking place on Sunday, 19 April, and will finish outside Whitworth Hall on Oxford Road – with road closures in place from Saturday 18 April.

Traffic management planning between the marathon team, councils and TfGM is currently taking place. Full details – including road closure times and an interactive map – will be available on the marathon website. If you have any questions in the meantime, you can contact the organisers via their website.

Potential Disruption

If you’re travelling back to campus after Easter, be aware that parking nearby may be affected due to event preparations and road closures. It’s a good idea to plan ahead, check alternative parking options or use public transport where possible.

If you’re planning to revise in the library or AGLC, there may be some noise disruption over the weekend. Saturday is expected to be quieter, although setup will take place throughout the day. Sunday will be busier, with marathon activity and road closures – so plan your study time accordingly.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during the event weekend and encourage you to plan ahead to minimise disruption.

Volunteering

Organisers are currently recruiting volunteers for a range of roles. For more information on volunteering – either individually or as a group – visit the marathon website.
