Celebrate the natural world by participating in one of more of our events throughout the month of April.
It’s In Our Nature is our annual campaign that aims to get staff, students and the wider community engaged with the natural beauty and biodiversity present on our campus. This year, we have a number of great events lined up commencing the week of the 21st of April.
From open days of our beautiful Botanical Gardens to wellness focused forest bathing, there’s something for everyone. We encourage everyone to get involved with our events listed below!
Nature Photography Competition (1st – 31st of April)
Submit your best photos of nature on campus to @UoMsust on instagram, or post a photo with the #InOurNature26 to enter!
Volunteer with RooTable at The Firs (21st of April)
1pm – 3pm, The Firs Botanical Gardens
Come join us for a volunteer afternoon out in nature! Learn to compost and get to know our very own University Botanical Gardens. Sign up here.
Make a Metre Matter Planting Session (21st of April)
2 – 4pm, Hulme Park
Join a hands-on planting session as part of Make a Metre Matter, a project that brings small but meaningful enhancements to pockets of green space across the city. Sign up here.

Litter Picks in Student Residences (22nd of April)
Celebrate Earth Day by giving back! Three litter-picks are happening across campus, available for students to join. Park-life tickets are up for grabs for participating students! Find out more at this link.
Hedgehog Friendly Campus Bakesale (23rd of April)
12 – 2pm, Students’ Union Foyer
Come grab a sweet treat from The Students’ Union to raise money for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society. Organised by student Sustainability Champions.
Guided Tree Trail Walk and Wheel (23rd of April)
Meet at 1pm in The Old Quad
Explore our historic campus tree trail on this guided walk and wheel.
Forest Bathing Wellbeing Event (23rd of April)
12.30 – 1.30pm, The Firs Botanical Gardens
This nature connection event, for staff and students at The University of Manchester, will help you take a break from your work and improve your mental and physical health. Sign up here.
Nature Quiz (23rd of April)
5pm – 6pm, The Hive, Students’ Union
There are prizes up for grabs at this nature themed quiz organised by the student Sustainability Champions!
Open Day at The Firs Botanical Gardens (24th of April)
10am – 3pm, The Firs Botanical Gardens
Drop in for an open day at The Firs Botanical Gardens in Fallowfield – an amazing site right on your doorstep! Explore historic plant collections and walk the April Plant Trail.
Tree Trail Biodiversity Walk (28th of April)
Meet at 12.45pm in The Old Quad
Our University campus is home to over 280 species of plants and animals! Join the student Sustainability Champions on a guided walk of our historical tree trail with a focus on spotting local wildlife along the way.
Yoga in Nature
1pm – 2pm, Whitworth Art Garden
Lead by experienced instructor Karon Mee, this session celebrates the benefits of nature for wellbeing. Suitable for all levels, this is an opportunity to step outside, breathe deeply, and move with nature.
