Earlier this year, we introduced emergency SMS alerts and desktop notifications through SafeZone to help us communicate quickly with students and colleagues during serious incidents.
To make sure the system is working correctly, we will be carrying out a planned test of our emergency notification system on Thursday 22 October at 11am.
If you receive a notification, please do not be concerned. This is a planned test and no action is required.
What to expect
At 11am on 22 October, some students and colleagues may receive a test notification:
- Some students and colleagues using University-managed devices may see a SafeZone notification appear on their screen.
- Students and colleagues with a mobile number recorded in Duo (the University’s two-factor authentication system) may receive a text message.
- No action is required.
- All notifications will be clearly marked as a test.
The message will read:
UoM Emergency alert system test alert!
This is a test of the emergency alert system you do not need to take any additional action
Regular testing helps ensure our emergency communications remain reliable and effective if they are ever needed. It also helps students and colleagues become familiar with what SafeZone notifications look like.
Feedback
If you experience any issues receiving the notification or would like to share feedback, please contact resilienceteam@manchester.ac.uk.
