Applications are now open for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship Scheme 2024-25!
Mitacs is a UK-Canada mobility programme that co-funds undergraduate students from a variety of academic disciplines to complete an intensive 12-week summer research internship – under the supervision of a professor at one of 70 participating Canadian universities.
For summer 2025, Mitacs (in partnership with the University of Manchester) will offer full funding for Manchester undergraduate students, to cover travel, housing and living expenses as well as support from student mentors and registration for professional development events and activities.
To be eligible, you must have one year remaining in your undergraduate programme as of autumn 2025 and a minimum grade average of 65% (or 60% if from a widening participation background). You must be nominated by the University of Manchester to be able to apply to the scheme.
To be nominated by the University, you need to apply by completing this form
If you are successful, you will then be nominated to Mitacs and apply again for their review. The final selection is done by Mitacs.
Ho Yiu Nichole Cheung completed a Mitacs internship in the summer of 2022 and after graduating this year, will be going back to the University of Toronto to pursue a funded PhD with her former Mitacs supervisor. Nichole says:
“The internship helped me to gain a lot of insight into the academia environment and gave me more confidence in both the lab and in my research. It made me realise that I do want to pursue a career in academia, and I am very excited to go back to Canada to continue my research on composites. Personally, I have also made friends from many different backgrounds, and I am really grateful to have new life-long friends that I am still in touch with. The application process might seem long but it is 100% worth it! I am sure you will secure the project of your dreams and have one of the best summers of your lifetime as long as you keep an open mind on exploring.”
