Blue 1 will be temporarily closed from Monday, 29 June while refurbishment work takes place to improve the space.
We know Blue 1 is a popular study area, and this closure is necessary to allow improvements that directly respond to student feedback about Library spaces. We ask that you please use alternative Library study spaces and PC Clusters during this time.
Why is Blue 1 closing?
Through surveys, conversations and ongoing student feedback, you’ve told us what matters most in Library study spaces – including access to power, inclusive design and comfortable layouts. The refurbishment of Blue 1 is part of our wider work to act on that feedback and improve how Library spaces support your learning.
What’s changing in Blue 1
When the space reopens in September, improvements will include:
· More height‑adjustable desks, creating more flexible and accessible study options
· More plug sockets, making it easier to power your devices
· Laptop docking stations, for increased usability
· New desks to improve comfort
These changes are designed to make Blue 1 a space that works better for a wider range of students and study styles.
During the works
To allow the refurbishment to take place:
· Blue 1 will be closed to students
· Fire escape routes will remain open at all times
We understand this may be inconvenient and appreciate your patience while the improvements are carried out.
Your voice, our Library
Improving Library spaces is an ongoing process, and your feedback continues to shape priorities across the Library. From accessibility and power provision to layout and comfort, your voice plays a key role in how spaces are developed.
Thank you for continuing to share your views and for helping us create Library spaces that better support your learning and wellbeing. If you have any thoughts or feedback, please get in touch!
