Green light for Fallowfield campus redevelopment

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The University of Manchester’s plan to redevelop the Fallowfield campus to provide more high-quality, modern student accommodation has been approved by Manchester City Council Planning and Highways Committee.

What’s changing?

  • We will redevelop Owens Park, Oak House and Woolton Hall to meet the increasing demand for student bedrooms in inclusive, safe and sociable surroundings.
  • We will replace the existing, older accommodation on site and deliver 3,300 more high-quality, modern bedrooms. The vision for Fallowfield campus is to provide approximately 5,400 student beds.
  • The new accommodation will include a mix of rooms to cater for different needs and price points to give our students greater choice.
  • The first phase of the project is the demolition of the Owen’s Park Tower, which has now been unused for a number of years.

Thank you to all students who fed into our consultation in June 2023, alongside residents, local groups, and University staff, to share your thoughts on the redevelopment plans.

You can find more detailed information and updates on the project on the University’s project website and we’ll keep current residents up to date as with progress as the project develops.
