In honour of IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia) we have listed several places that you can access LGBTQ+ specific support. If you have experienced a hate crime, please reach out to a trusted person and consider accessing support using any of the methods below. All students should feel comfortable to express themselves fully and freely.
SU
- Trans, Non-Binary, Intersex and Gender-Diverse students can access the Gender Expression Fund for funds towards gender-affirming resources. (Plus more support services here)
- There are monthly sexual violence drop-in support sessions run by the LGBT Foundation and TRC during term-time.
- The SU now have LGBT+ and Trans associations (associations are groups of students that advocate for students and campaign for their interests).
UoM
- Report and support have specific gender based violence and hate crime support and you can ask for an advisor who matches your identity.
- Find an Interactive map of buildings with gender-neutral facilities.
City
- The Proud Trust – LGBT+ organisation that supports LGBT+ youth people through youth groups, peer support and mentoring programs + the Proud Connections chat service.
- The LGBT Foundation – a national charity with LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing at the heart of everything they do.

- Switchboard LGBT 0300 330 0630, open 10:00-22:00. Online chat also available.
- Galop – helpline is for LGBT+ people experiencing abuse or violence, such as hate crime, domestic abuse, sexual violence, so-called “conversion therapy” or any other kind of abuse. 0800 999 5428. Open Monday- Friday. Email and web chat also available.
Therapy
- UoM’s Counselling Service.
- LGBT foundation and Indigo gender service offer free talking therapy for Manchester residents
Community Support
- Rainbow Noir – a meeting for queer people of colour in Manchester.
- Queer Family Tea – sober communal meal in Partisan for LGBTQ+ people.
- Feel Good Club – a lesbian owned, queer friendly café with a whole host of community-focussed events.
