As you may be aware, the UK Government had asked the independent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to look into the graduate visa, which gives international students permission to stay in the UK for up to two or three years depending on their level of study, after successfully completing a course in the UK.
The MAC announced its findings on Tuesday, 14 May. We are very pleased that they recommended the visa should remain unchanged.
Our University and the other organisations that represent universities in the UK have been making the case strongly to the government and in the media about how important our international students are. You are an incredibly important part of the community here at Manchester and we are delighted that the independent report has agreed with this.
The UK government now has to respond to the report and decide whether to take any further action. We are expecting this outcome shortly and will let you know if this has any further effect. We will continue to make the case on your behalf that the reports’ finding should be accepted.
