IT Kit Amnesty

PGRs: Safely dispose of your old IT kit during our Amnesty Week

If you’re a PGR student with university or personal IT equipment you no longer need, then why not drop it off during our Amnesty Week?

In support of the University’s commitment to a zero-carbon future, IT Services are holding an IT Kit Amnesty, from Monday, 20 October to Friday, 24 October across campus.*

Drop off points

Between 9am and 4pm:

  • Kilburn Building ground floor foyer (all week)
  • Main Library ground floor foyer (all week)
  • Tuesday, 21 October: Nancy Rothwell Building Exhibition Space B
  • Wednesday, 22 October: Stopford Building reception
  • Thursday, 23 October: University Place drum foyer

What can you drop off?

You can donate a range of old equipment, including:

  • Laptops and desktop computers
  • Screens/monitors
  • Mobile phones
  • Tablets/iPads
  • Game consoles: PlayStation, Xbox and game controllers
  • Mobile gaming devices: Switch, 3DS
  • Computer accessories: monitor/screen, keyboard, mouse, speakers
  • Computer parts
  • Laptop batteries
  • Docking stations
  • Cables and leads
  • Memory sticks and external drives
  • Printers

Please note

  • IT Services can’t take devices that are badly broken, but cracks and chips are okay.
  • If you’re handing over an Apple device make sure you’ve logged out of it. This will allow working devices to be wiped and re-used.

* No data on the devices will be looked at, and the devices will be handled securely and anonymously until their data is wiped or destroyed. The kit will be dealt with in the most appropriate sustainable way: Reused, repurposed, or recycled.

Help us do even better than last year!

Last year’s IT Kit Amnesty saw 1,370 devices handed in, with 40 laptops and 20 monitors retained for reuse by the University and 506 devices reused or refurbished through our partner Converge. The rest were recycled at Converge’s zero-to-landfill facility.
