Moving out this summer? Whether you’re heading away for the summer break or leaving for good, donate your unwanted stuff through the University’s Give it Don’t Bin it campaign.
🧡 Donate to the British Heart Foundation (BHF)
Last year Manchester students donated over 100 tonnes to the British Heart Foundation and generated over £204,000.
With your help, we’d love to increase that this year. You’ll find BHF donation banks near campus and around student areas of the city — and soon, in Halls too (your Halls team will let you know when they’re in place).
Find your nearest donation point in the city or in halls.
What you can donate:
- Clothes, shoes and accessories
- Books
- Entertainment: video games, vinyl, games consoles, toys and games
- Clean pots, pans & cutlery (no sharp knives, please if you have these, take a look at these tips for disposal).
- Small electricals
The BHF also offers free furniture collections. Arrange yours.
🚚 Pop-up donation events: Move out weekend
We know most tenancies finish the weekend of 29–30 June, so you’ll find pop-up donation sites in Fallowfield to help you easily donate unwanted items as you move out of your student home. Find your nearest one.
🥫 Donate Unopened Food
Got non-perishable food you’re not taking with you?
- Donate to Manchester Central Foodbank by dropping it off at Sainsbury’s (Oxford Rd) or one of the other donations points or to arrange a drop off of donations.
- Or take it to your Hall Reception.
📚 Textbook Rescue
Old textbooks? Give them a new life by donating them to the Library’s Textbook Rescue scheme – which rescued over 500 books last year!
Drop them at the Customer Service desk in the Main Library anytime
🚮 And if there is anything left…
Please do not leave rubbish and unwanted household items in the street, make sure everything is disposed of responsibly, and know which bin to use:
- Blue bins: Paper, card, cartons
- Brown bins: Plastics, cans, glass
Need to get rid of something big? The council offer a free collection service for up to 3 items a year
