Things you need to know (or do) before you leave for good

Your time at university is quickly coming to an end and there are some important things that need to do or know about to make your transition out of undergraduate student life as easy as possible. Here to help is our finalist check-list!

Your IT account

Your IT account will close on Saturday, 1 August 2026. This means that you will no longer have access to your documents, email or Canvas course materials.

You will not be able to access Microsoft 365 services, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive and your University email.

If you have your University email address set as a recovery email address on any external services, you’ll need to make sure this is changed.

As IT Services will not be able to recover your data after your account is closed, it’s a good idea to make copies of those emails, documents and other files that you’d like to keep to avoid a last minute rush.

For more information visit the IT Services website.

Returning your Library books

You can return books to the book returns window by the entrance of Main Library.

If you have any old textbooks you no longer need to use, you can donate them to the Library. Just drop them off at the Customer Services desk by the main entrance of Main Library.

If you have any question, Library staff are still available and happy to help. Please contact them through Library Chat or the online enquiry service.

You can find out more information and updates on the library website.

Graduates of The University of Manchester can continue to access the Library’s resources as an alumni member after graduation. Find out more.

Graduation

You should have now received an invite to register for your ceremony, and registration will remain open until Friday, 3 June 2026. Details of how to register, as well as information on the ceremonies, robe hire and preparing for the day, can be found on the Graduation website.

Don’t forget, we also have a Relaxed Graduation ceremony option, designed to provide a comfortable, accessible and inclusive environment for all our students who would prefer a more pared-back experience. Find out more and book your place if you’d prefer this option.

Know how to get your transcripts

An official record of the grades you have achieved (your transcript) will be available electronically in mid-August. Online transcripts can be accessed through Digitary for free. You can find more information on accessing your electronic transcript here.

Our careers service

You can still access the Careers Service for up to two years after finishing your course, with our graduate careers support available on campus and online. You can book appointments, join graduate events and search for vacancies on CareerConnect — just make sure you register for your graduate account to access services.

If you’re looking to get support over summer, there are still appointments available for CV and application feedback, along with dedicated opportunities over the coming weeks to help you take your next steps:

Graduate Careers Week: Monday, 15 – Friday, 19 June

We have a full programme of events to help you navigate your next steps after university. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet employers at the Graduate Careers Fair, get support with finding graduate roles, and much more. Check out the Graduate Careers Week schedule.
