Festival season
Music lovers have much to look forward to this summer. The Parklife Festival returns to Heaton Park, bringing some of the world’s biggest artists to Manchester for a weekend of live music.
You can also enjoy outdoor concerts at Sounds of the City, held in the unique Castlefield Bowl throughout July, while Live from Wythenshawe Park brings major artists to one of the city’s largest green areas.
Try something new and volunteer
Volunteering is a brilliant way to try something new and meet like-minded people, all whilst supporting our Manchester community.

Pride and community celebrations
Towards the end of summer, the city hosts big celebrations for the LGBTQ+ community. Manchester Village Pride is taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, bringing live entertainment, community events and celebration.
Alongside Manchester Pride, events such as The Pink Picnic in Peel Park offer a chance to enjoy and celebrate Manchester’s diverse communities.
Get active
With the better weather, and longer days, summer is a great time to get active. UoM Sport can help you find an activity you enjoy – from spin classes to football, netball to cycling – there’s something for everyone to get involved in.
Summer at the museums and galleries
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly day out, Manchester’s museums and galleries have plenty to offer throughout the summer. One highlight is Human Natures at Manchester Museum, running from April until November 2026. This free exhibition explores humanity’s relationship with the natural world and how our actions affect the environment around us.
Whether you’re interested in nature, climate issues or simply want to explore Manchester’s most popular museum, it’s well worth a visit this summer.
Experience the FIFA World Cup atmosphere
This summer, FIFA World Cup 2026 takes place in North America. While matches are being played across the United States, Canada and Mexico, Manchester is sure to be filled with excitement as fans gather to watch the world’s biggest sporting event.
Whether you’re cheering on your home nation, watching with friends at local pubs or simply enjoying the atmosphere around the city at one of the fan zones, the tournament is a great way to connect with other students from across the world

You can also explore the city’s football landmarks, including National Football Museum, or take a tour of Old Trafford and Etihad Stadium.
Other sporting events
If football isn’t your thing – there’s plenty of other sporting events in Manchester this summer – from the Netball Super League Grand Final, and Women’s T20 World Cup and the UK B-Boy Championships at Aviva Studios – you’re bound to find something to your sporting taste. Makers Markets
Looking for a unique day out? The Makers Markets take place regularly across Greater Manchester all year round, but they are especially beautiful throughout the summer, bringing together independent traders, local artists, food vendors and small businesses.
Whether you’re searching for handmade gifts, artisan food and drinks, vintage finds or something a little different, these markets are a great way to support local businesses and explore different neighbourhoods across the city.
Look after your wellbeing
The summer break is also a great time to focus on your wellbeing. The Counselling and Mental Health Service is running a range of free workshops throughout June and July, including Mindfulness, Breathwork, Managing Stress, Challenging Unhelpful Thinking Habits and Finding Balance at a Time of Stress.
