Wellbeing: Take Notice

For January and February, our wellbeing theme is ‘Take Notice’.

Taking notice is about being mindful of the moment – what’s happening, and how it makes us think and feel which can help us better understand ourselves. When we know how to do this, we can seek out the moments that we value most, which can help us know how to take care of ourselves better.

It’s easy to get caught up in the fast-paced semester and not take time to notice your surroundings, there are lots of great things you might miss if you don’t take a second to hit pause and appreciate what’s going on, inside and outside.

Go for a walk and take in your surroundings

Try to leave your phone at home or turn off your notifications. If you need more stimulation whilst going for a walk, try picking a colour and finding as many things as possible, to look at in that colour, you can do a similar exercise where you go through the alphabet and find something beginning with each letter or you can find a random object and give it an imagined backstory.

Find something to be grateful for each day

Reflecting on your day is a great way of taking notice of your feelings – some people might like to journal; others might record voice notes to themselves. However you do it, make a note of how your day went and even on really difficult days, try to find one small thing to be grateful for.

You can use our gratitude journal pages to keep track.

Headspace

You might benefit from some more mindfulness or meditation to focus a scattered mind or make you feel more grounded. As a student, you get free access to Headspace – all you need is your Uni email address.
