Ramadan Mubarak

Ramadan is a time for reflection and to come back to what’s important to us. It pushes us to practice self-discipline and mindfulness through fasting from dawn to sunset and is the most important month, where we can increase our devotion to Allah (God).

I wish all those observing Ramadan a blessed and peaceful month ahead. May this time bring you closer to what matters most to you, fill your days with meaningful reflection, and your evenings with the warmth of community and family. Ramadan Mubarak!

For those fasting, may you find strength and purpose in your fast, and joy in your iftars. May this month be a source of spiritual renewal and personal growth.

رمضان مبارك (Ramadan Mubarak)”

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan takes place in the ninth month of the Lunar or Hijri Islamic Calendar. It is one of the five Pillars of Islam and known as Sawm or the act of fasting. It is also when Muslims mark the revelation of the Quran (Islamic holy book) to the Prophet Muhammad. It is a holy month for Muslims when they abstain primarily from eating and drinking during the daylight hours. It is considered a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice.

Why Celebrate Ramadan?

Ramadan is much more than just fasting. It is a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice. It is also a time for increased prayer, charity, and acts of goodwill. By celebrating Ramadan, we can foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures and beliefs within our university community.

What’s on?

The Students’ Union’s Islamic Society (ISOC) have lots of events you can join where you can connect with our student Muslim community. We also have different places on campus for faith and worship, including prayer rooms which you can find the locations here.
