Content warning: This article includes reference to sexual harassment and violence and may be triggering to some readers.
Bullying, harassment, sexual assault, discrimination and hate crime has no place at our University and on our campus.
If you have experienced any of these during your time at University or in Manchester, you can submit an anonymous report or speak with a specialised advisor at the University’s Report & Support service.
Whether you’re facing an issue or know someone who is, this service is here to help you. Every year, we receive and deal with reports from students so if you’re thinking about reporting an incident, you’re not alone.
What is Report & Support?
Report & Support is a platform where you can report any incidents of bullying, harassment, discrimination, or sexual misconduct and abuse.
You can choose to report anonymously or provide your details if you prefer.
How do I use it?
If you experience or witness any concerning behaviour, you can use the Report & Support service to share your concerns. Have a look at our FAQs for more questions about our service, including queries for international students relating to visas.
What about confidentiality?
We understand that confidentiality is essential. When you use the Report & Support service, your information is handled with the utmost care and will only be accessible to those directly involved in addressing the issue.
We are committed to maintaining your privacy and ensuring a safe environment for all students.
What happens after I submit a report?
If you’ve shared your contact details with us, priority will be given to urgent cases but all reports can expect a response within two working days. You will be invited to an initial meeting with a member of staff, who will explain the process and procedure in detail, and explore the options for support and/or reporting with you.
If you wish to make a formal report for investigation, the team will gather further information to inform any precautionary measures that the University may need to take whilst an investigation is ongoing, and ensure you have access to all available support.
We have dedicated FAQs for students that have submitted a report to us.
Anonymous reporting
Anonymous reports allow us to get an understanding of the prevalence of issues within our community. We use anonymous reports to identify broad trends or patterns of behaviour which can be addressed, for example, identifying training needs in a particular area.
It is important to understand, that if you choose this option, we will not be able to contact you and offer you any advice or support. The reporting system is truly anonymous, so we do not receive any details about who is submitting the report.
What should I do if it’s an emergency?
If you or someone you’re with is in immediate danger, or it is a time-sensitive emergency, call the police on 999.
