Free period products available from the Main Library

Reading Time: < 1 minute

We believe everyone should have access to sanitary protection during their period. But many are experiencing period poverty, and are unable to access or afford them.

Periods are a part of life but they shouldn’t be a point of inequality, compromise your quality of life or be a distraction from making the very most of your time spent at university. Because of this, the Students’ Union have partnered with the University to launch a new scheme providing free sanitary products you can access on campus.

From Wednesday, 26 May there will be free period products available from the 1st floor toilets for anyone who may need them:

  • A large dispenser (30 boxes of sanitary towels) – 1st floor female toilets, Main Library
  • Small dispenser (10 boxes of sanitary towels) – 1st floor accessible toilets, Main Library
  • Small dispenser (10 boxes of sanitary towels) – 1st floor male toilets, Main Library

Please take what you need for your period. These can be for yourself or someone else you know who is struggling to get access to the period products they need.

The dispensers will be replenished each morning. If they become empty during the day, there will be some sanitary towels available from the ground floor reception desk.

This scheme has been initiated by the Students’ Union, championed by their Women’s Officer working in partnership with and funded by the University. It is initially being run on a trial basis with the free period products just being made available in the Main Library.
